The war in Israel is front and center on the world stage, and there are a number of things that are starting to surface, that we didn’t think that we would ever see again. When Hamas blindsided Israeli families and concertgoers on not only their Sabbath, but also on a huge religious holiday, it proved its cowardice and barbarism. At least everyone is condemning it.

Well… not everyone. We are seeing universities engaging in professor-led protests, where hordes of rabid demonstrators shout slogans that are code language for killing the Jews. This is totally unacceptable on every level. The Democratic Socialists of America have been squarely on the side of Hamas. We’ve seen the pure hate coming from people like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, but the DSA in Minnesota has been hard at work spreading discrimination. This was on full display at the protest they were involved in at Bryant Square in Minneapolis. DSA has Minnesota chapters in the Twin Cities, Duluth, Red River Valley, and they all use the same antisemitic language. It’s time to choose a side. Who are you standing with?

We also discuss new speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. Who is he? Will he do anything different than McCarthy? Is there hope for the future yet? Also, MN Rep Dean Phillips (CD3) is officially in the presidential race. Look out, America!

Gotta Do A Little Digging

There are a whole bunch of things to consider when you step into the booth to vote. We’ve heard so many times about how difficult it is to know which local candidates to vote for. It can be easy to cast a vote when a candidate is a Republican or a Democrat. They are a little more publicized. You kind of know where they stand on things. Nonpartisan races don’t work like that, and that’s a good thing. You have to do a little more work. There are usually a couple ways to vote for local candidates: randomly pick one or skip it altogether. It’s common to see fewer votes in these races. These races are too important for that. You’ve got to do some homework, and we’re going to go through our ballots to show how we do it.

There are multiple places to find information on local candidates. Find out if there was a local candidate forum and watch it. You can learn a lot, if the questions are good. Google the candidate names. You can go to view your sample ballot on the Secretary of State’s website. Candidate websites are linked to the page before you go to your sample ballot. There’s some great info there. You can go to the Secretary of State’s Candidate Filings and find some websites linked there too. We’ll clue you in to some of the buzzwords the radicals use. We’ll even shed some light on the dreaded backside of the ballot. You’ve got to go in informed. Don’t leave local races blank. Don’t just fill them in. Local elections really do matter.

We also discuss the latest KSTP poll, among others, and which statewide candidates are in some real trouble. We also make more bold predictions about next Tuesday.

Yes, Primaries Are Important

IMG_0724

It’s the weekend before the big primary. Are you planning to vote? I know… it’s a primary election, so who does? We ALL should. Are you tired of voting for the lesser of two evils? Then vote in the primary to decide who’s on the ballot. Whether this is a good system or not is irrelevant. It’s the system we have. If we don’t participate, we get what we’re handed.

It’s important to make sure that you get informed on the candidates before you go to the polls. Don’t listen to the commercials. Don’t listen to the media (except us, we’ll never steer you wrong). Start looking at your races on the Minnesota Secretary of State Candidate Filing website. We go through a few races live on the air to show you how we do our research and get you started, since it would be impossible for us to discuss every race.

We play a little game show called “Who’s The Most Radical?”. We go through the special election in Minneapolis for Abdi Warsame’s seat in Cedar Riverside/Seward neighborhoods, wondering if the riots have changed the attitude in the city. We evaluate the candidates and see if they’re bound to get more of the same or if change may be coming.

Also, there’s trouble in paradise. Jacob Frey blamed Governor Walz for the delay in the National Guard’s arrival during the Minneapolis riots. They both made huge missteps, but the facts seem to show that the Governor received the request from Mayor Frey and waited almost a day and a half to mobilize the Guard. The continued lack of leadership in our state’s leaders is frightening. Do they agree with the radicals that started this?

2018 Election Recap

voting

Today we have the much anticipated 2018 election recap. As is always true, we tell you how we feel about the outcomes from the national level down to the local. It’s no secret that the results were a mixed bag at the national level, and that Minnesota’s DFL came out strong and voted. How did things fare at at the local level?

We’ve always said we need to build a farm team at the local level. It is only by winning local races that we will have a bench of candidates to pull from for state-wide races in the future. Who’s going to run in CD2 or CD 3 in two years? There’s a chance that leaves a hole in the MN Senate or House. Who runs to fill that hole? Do you have the best candidate or just take the person that shows up? We have to start paying attention to local races if we ever hope to be consistently competitive in the other elections. We need a culture change in MN politics, and we just happen to be the group with the plan to do it.

Also, it just wouldn’t be an election report without sour grapes from a former mayor in Crystal.
