We have been talking for some time about the preemption battle between state and local government. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of bad state statutes that negatively affect cities. We’re not talking about those. They are surprisingly rarely discussed. Instead, the battle over preemption deals with the effort of progressives to erode the civil rights of those that disagree with them. The battle over firearms at the local level is only beginning, and the local governments are currently testing the waters to see what they can get get away with. Cities like Deerfield, IL and Boulder, CO have outright banned the mysterious “assault weapons”. Most, however, recognize that they don’t want to be on the forefront of that fight and are looking for a backdoor to sneak into legislating firearms. Eden Prairie, MN decided to lead the charge in Minnesota, by trying to implement a 12 month moratorium on any new firearms stored in Eden Prairie. They tried to do this by lumping them in with “adult-use” stores and pawn shops. They also tried to lump the first and second readings of the ordinance together into one motion. Talk about underhanded. Anyways… you can contact their city council members on their website. Three of five of these yahoos are up for re-election this year. Who’s game?

Have you checked out our Spotify playlist? At the beginning of each episode Jason quotes some song lyrics that have to do with the subject matter of the podcast.
