Is ReNae Bowman Directing This at Me?
By Andrew Richter
We’ve had a long tug of war with former Crystal mayor ReNae Bowman and I have no issue with that. I have no problem disagreeing with people or even having people hate me. I’ve learned that’s part of politics. A thick skin is a requirement.
But, I’ll tell you it’s hard not to get angry at some of the things directed towards me and my group or other candidates running for office. Now, according to Bowman, we are apparently inciting violence! Check this out:
Bowman “shared” a post on Facebook about Planned Parenthood, apparently trying to draw an analogy between Crystal and people who disagree with that organization;
From Rolling Stone Magazine: Re: Planned Parenthood people being killed:
1. A public figure with access to the airwaves or pulpit demonizes a person or group of persons.
2. With repetition, the targeted person or group is gradually dehumanized, depicted as loathsome and dangerous—arousing a combustible combination of fear and moral disgust.
3. Violent images and metaphors, jokes about violence, analogies to past ‘purges’ against reviled groups, use of righteous religious language—all of these typically stop just short of an explicit call to arms.
4. When violence erupts, the public figures who have incited the violence condemn it—claiming no one could possibly have foreseen the ‘tragedy.'”
That is absurd and it’s always aimed at conservatives. The idea that disagreeing with someone incites violence is one of the reasons we can’t have a civil debate in this country. Abortion is one of those hot-button issues people feel very passionately about. Either way, it is unfair to hold someone accountable for the actions of another. What this has to do with Crystal I’m trying to figure out, but Bowman seems to think the same thing is being done locally but by whom she doesn’t say. Check out what she says about it:
This is happening at local levels! If you start to hear words about a candidate that sound like personal attacks, they are!
And to you a “personal attack” is disagreeing with you! How about the names you have called me, or Jim Adams, or Jeff Kolb? How about saying that you lost the election to the “dark side.” Oh, that’s right, it’s OK as long as you do it. And where is this happening at a local level? Who is doing this?
As citizens we must demand better behavior from candidates, incumbents or not!!
I agree! That’s why we voted you out of office.
Please do me a favor and contact the candidate personally to seek a truthful answer rather than rely on the lies and personal attacks spewed out by extremist candidates!
And who are these extremists? Who exactly is spewing out lies and personal attacks? What are the lies? Who are you talking about?
We, as individuals, can stop the crazy, by not being a lazy American! Smeary gossips is a form of entertainment in our media, cannot be allowed in our voting process! Check facts by contacting the candidate you just might learn the truth!
Well, if anyone would know about facts it would be you (wah wah).
Here is the screen shot before I’m accused of being a liar;
Now one may dismiss this as the usual ReNae Bowman “playing the victim.” But, folks I’m telling you that this goes deeper. She’s basically trying to criminalize anyone who disagrees with her. If you disagree with her, it’s a personal attack. If you don’t like her personally, then you hate her and are inciting violence against her.
Let me tell you the truth folks. The people who disagree with the former mayor, or were treated poorly by her, or who don’t like her for whatever reason, organized and defeated her and her friends at the ballot box. And part of that was exposing who she really is. We took statements she made and dispersed them to a wider audience. We have a bigger and wider audience than she ever will and that has to drive her crazy. We quoted her, played video of her, and shared her votes and policies. That’s a fact, not a personal attack.
This is nothing more than an attempt to shut us up or intimidate us to be quiet by claiming that we are “inciting violence.” It won’t work my friends. It won’t work. I know this is aimed at people like me and Madam former mayor, you don’t scare me.
