John Budziszewski Has to Go

The June 17 Crystal City Council meeting was full of fireworks. This wasn’t a pre 4th of July celebration, it was debate about how to fund mill & overlay projects. I’m not going to get into the issue here. If you want to know more about it you can listen to our interview with Mayor Adams HERE. In this post I want to focus on is the behavior of one person on the council.

You can tell a lot about a person by their body language. I was watching council members faces while other people we talking. Even though this was a passionate debate, I thought for the most part it was respectful. The one person who acted like a total jerk was section 2 councilman John Budziszewski.

When he was first elected, I didn’t know what to make out of Budziszewski. He was quiet, mild-mannered, and didn’t seem to have an agenda.  Boy has that changed.

At the June 17 I was watching Budziszewski. Every time someone he disagreed with was speaking he was smirking, smiling, laughing, shaking his head, and shifting in his seat. The contempt he has for Mayor Adams and Councilman Peak would be obvious to a two-year-old. Even when Julie Deshler read her statement about agonizing over her decision on this issue, Budziszewski was annoyed (even though Deshler actually ended up voting with him.)

When a discussion was going back and forth about the mill & overlay,Budziszewski accused Adams and Peak of “flip-flopping” on the issue. He said as a snotty parting shot offering no evidence anyone flip-flopped on anything. The truth is that nobody on this council has flip-flopped more than Budziszewski.

Back in 2011 Budziszewski was the lone no vote against the Phase 11 street reconstruction project. But, when it came to the Phase 2013 project in 2013 Budziszewski not only voted for the project but he voted to over assess the citizens that he represents. Flip-flop anyone?

When he was thrown off the West Metro Fire Board, Budziszewski also showed his true colors. My sources told me that when the council decided to replace Budziszewski as the “citizen representative” with an actual citizen, Mary Serie, Budziszewski lashed out at the council and threw a huge temper tantrum. He didn’t like his power being taken away.

But when Serie was actually appointed to the Board at the January 7 council meeting, Budziszewski went out of his way to kiss her ass, thanking her for serving and talking about how wonderful it was to have citizens willing to serve. Clearly Budziszewski is one guy when the cameras are on and another behind the scenes. I wonder if Mary Serie knows how much Budziszewski worked against her? Flip-flop?

And Budziszewski was even resistant to the idea of open transparency of campaign finance donations as Ward 2 candidate Jeff Kolb wrote about HERE. I wonder why Mr. Budziszewski opposes this? Of course, to date he has offered no explanation and I’m sure he won’t.

Now he can’t even knock on doors by himself. He has recruited DFL representative Mike Freiberg to hold his hand while he knocks on doors. Here is a tweet from Freiberg on the subject. Why in a non-partisan race does Budziszewski bring in a partisan state representative. He must be nervous…….

My fellow citizens, we can do better than this slime ball. Budziszewski isn’t worthy of being on our council. He has no new ideas, never answers email, doesn’t attend events in the city (unless he’s up for re-election), and offers nothing for changes in policy. Let’s vote him out on August 12.

Tomorrow’s the big day. You have a choice to make. Before you do, please be informed. You can’t trust someone in a local race just because they ascribe to a certain party. These are non-partisan races. Now, I’m not a name caller, but I’m going to reblog this because it does show some important character traits about one of the candidates. Character is everything. This blog post caused a lot of controversy in the day, so be warned, and vote smart.
