It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Boy Wonder AKA Mayor Shep Harris! I thought I liked to hear myself talk but even I don’t write as many self-serving article as Golden Valley Mayor Shep “Boy Wonder” Harris. For his latest nonsense in the Sun Post, the mayor puts on his best Batman suit!

Despite the extreme cold temperatures, 2014 is already looking to be an exciting and successful year for Golden Valley.

Cold temperatures?? Must be climate change!!!

New City Council Members Larry Fonnest and Andy Snope have joined the City Council in setting an aggressive agenda for the coming year. We will reach out to the community on a number of projects with a focus on housing and economic redevelopment, the future of a Golden Valley community center and parks, establishment of a financial advisory committee to aid in the city’s budgeting process and a task force designed to increase the overall appeal of our city to residents of Golden Valley and beyond.

Advise the council on finances? Here’s an idea; cut spending!

With an improving economy, we see many signs of growth and opportunity in housing and economic development. The City has approved the construction of the Arcata and the Xenia housing projects in the Xenia Avenue South and I-394 area, bringing more than 500 luxury-style apartments to the area and attracting both young professionals and empty nesters alike.

Yes, all high density!!!

Our hope is to also see The 3.9.4. apartments nearby and several other housing proposals go forward on the west side of the City. These projects not only provide new vibrancy to the area but also help to expand the City’s residential tax base and increase diversity of housing options.

Diversity of housing options?? Get the hell out of the housing market!!

The City has also been very busy on a number of redevelopment projects, which should open in 2014.

• The only MINI Cooper dealership in all of Minnesota at Market Street and Louisiana Avenue South

• A new cluster of convenience stores near Highway 55 and Boone Avenue

• Expansion of Meadowbrook Elementary back into its original home, formerly the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery.

Huh? Is the mayor trying to take credit for businesses moving in? People do business in Golden Valley in spite of their council, not because of it!

Of course, Golden Valley is still going through the vetting process with regard to the proposed Bottineau Light Rail Line. Late last year, the City Council authorized the formation of a Bottineau Light Rail Station Area Planning Advisory Committee of residents and community members who will provide the city recommendations in 2014 on the design for one or two possible stations in Golden Valley. We look forward to those recommendations and community input to follow.

Here’s a recommendation; Don’t do it at all and stop wasting my money!

Last but not least are our beautiful parks. By the end of 2014 almost a third of our parks will have new playground systems hand-picked by residents and community members for Glenview Terrace, Lions, Brookview, Wildwood, and Gearty Parks. And to make Brookview Golf Course a more enjoyable destination, construction has started for lawn bowling courts and a new patio to be open by August.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our wonderful city. It has been an honor to serve our community, and I know that our work together this year will make Golden Valley an even better place to live, work and play.

Now notice what is missing in the mayor’s goals; Is there anything about reducing government or getting rid of city codes that infringe on our liberty? Answer; no. It’s nothing more than a government Christmas list and it’s you who will buying the presents. This comes just two months after the city council arrogantly bragged about how frugal and conservative they were being. Does Mayor Harris still think that he’s growing more conservative??? Of course the mayor also neglected to mention the creation of an emergency water fund. You will have that to pay for too!

Let’s look at the calendar: November 2015 to be precise! Give Boy Wonder his kryptonite! That’s when we can vote him out of office!!!
