The Sun Post has reported that the seldom-used Becker Park Pavilion and warming house was vandalism over Christmas;

Crystal Police are offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest or prosecution of the parties responsible for the Dec. 24 vandalism of a city park building. On Dec. 24 between the hours of midnight and 8:40 a.m. a person or persons broke into and vandalized the Becker Park recreation building, located at 6225 56th Avenue North, Crystal.

Once inside, the vandals broke windows and mirrors, sprayed fire extinguishers across walls and floors, and broke into the building’s kitchen area, where they caused further damage. The vandals “wrecked just about everything they could wreck,” Crystal Police Deputy Chief Mike Meehan said, adding that, based on some of the recovered evidence, police believe the vandalism was conducted by more than one person.

A city Parks and Recreation worker discovered the damage during a routine maintenance check and reported it to police. The building is generally closed during winter, opening only occasionally for events.

An estimate on the total cost to repair the damages is forthcoming, Meehan said. Those wishing to contact the police with information regarding the vandalism are encouraged to call the Crystal Police tip line: 763-531-1020.

OK let me be clear; Before some jackass or soccer mom accuses me of condoning vandalism, these vandals have made me think of something;

This building is perhaps the biggest waste of money we’ve ever had in Crystal. It’s almost never used at all. Can I propose that we just tear this building down rather than waste the taxpayer dollars to repair it?
