If you think the above seminars are a waste of money and time, consider this: The Minneapolis School District is paying Metro Transit
$7.2 Million/yr to buy bus passes for all its middle & HS students. This in addition to the orange school buses which continue to operate as usual. The staff that created this idea justify is as “A learning experience for students”. It also employs ten new hires whose sole job is to ‘monitor the use of the passes. But kids are skipping school using the passes &/or selling or renting them to family or friends. I learned to ride the bus transit system in St. Paul when I was 8 years old and it took me two days. $7+Million is a lot of money for a system that is perpetually broke despite spending $23k per pupil an delivering a HS graduation rate of less than 50%. IF this were just for students who cannot use the orange bus because of sports or after school clubs it would be one thing. But its EVERYBODY – 100%. Apparently the DIst. #1 staff are stupider than their students, or at least misguided. “Let’s see, it’s Monday. How can we waste more money? ” Remember that 75% of the costs of Dist. #1 are paid by state taxes and Federal grants. So if you live in the district, you are still paying (twice) for this hubris.
