The Northstar Money Pit

You think Hiawatha light rail is failing, check out the numbers for Northstar commuter rail;

Northstar Stats

Again notice a few things;

1) Ridership has slightly decreased three years in a row

2) Total revenue in 2012 was $16,654,945

3) Total passenger fares in 2012 was $2,572,862 or 15.4%

Also notice how they show a “net income” in 2012 of $609,798. What happened to this money? Why wasn’t this returned to the taxpayers?

Does this look like a good spot to put our money? And remember this doesn’t include capital costs or subsidizing land around light rail!
