Well I don’t know what happened to capitalism;

Residents have the chance to speak regarding potential property tax abatements and a business subsidy agreement with Baxter Healthcare.

Of course the term “abatement” is another word for tax break.

The Brooklyn Park City Council and EDA will meet in joint session at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, and hold a public hearing on the matter.

The EDA and the council are the same people!!!!!!

Baxter International is an Illinois-based Fortune 500 biotechnology company seeking to invest $302 million in a biogenetics manufacturing plant at 9450 Winnetka Ave. N., the former Genmab building.

The city has committed to offering Baxter $490,000 in Tax Increment Financing dollars forfeited by Genmab. It has also promised Baxter $4,000 or $8,000 for each qualified job the company creates, depending on the salaries. The assistance could not exceed Baxter’s share of city property taxes.

How about small businesses that create two-thirds of the jobs in this country? Where’s their handout? Oh that’s right; they don’t have hundreds of lobbyists and lawyers greasing the palms of politicians. And Brooklyn Park don’t you even try to claim that you have to raise property taxes for “necessary services” when you give handouts to corporate millionaires.

Baxter is also receiving aid from the state.

What is this? Money from the state too! What about the hungry children? What about the our poor underfunded schools? What about our roads and bridges falling apart?

I’m being sarcastic of course but you see the point…..government gets in bed with big business and the loser is We the People.
