Crystal Should Disband Human Rights Commission

I notice that in the agenda packet for Crystal’s city council meeting tonight that three people from the Human Rights Commission are resigning. In addition, Jeff Kolb, who was appointed at the February 5 meeting but decided to resign and join the planning Commission instead, is also out. That makes four resignations at once.

I say that council take advantage of this by eliminating the Human Rights Commission all together. At their meeting last month, the commission refused to look into the mishandling of the Ramirez case (they must have been tipped off about it) by the now defunct West Metro Gang Strike Force. If residents being possibly mistreated by the police is not a matter of human rights then I don’t see what legitimate city function this commission serves.

Golden Valley eliminated this commission (although some are trying to revive it) and I suggest Crystal quietly do the same. I won’t hold my breath.

Entry filed under: Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, City Government, County, Crystal, Golden Valley, Plymouth.
