NEW PRINCIPAL NAMED FOR ROBBINSDALE AREA SCHOOLS STEAM MAGNET SCHOOL

New Hope, Minn. – Kim Hiel, principal of Meadow Lake Elementary School, has been selected as principal of the new elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) elementary magnet school opening in the Robbinsdale Area Schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

Ms. Hiel has been principal of Meadow Lake for four years. During her tenure at Meadow Lake, her work included new initiatives, including a focus on schoolwide STEM and an in-house preschool program, along with rising test scores. Prior to Meadow Lake, she was principal for four years at Lakeview Elementary School, where she was instrumental in the creation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) focus at that school. Ms. Hiel has served in education for 17 years and has been an administrator for 12 years. “While my heart breaks to leave my students and staff at Meadow Lake at the end of this school year,” explained Hiel, “I am truly excited to start this next adventure and to introduce the world of STEAM to our students.”

The STEAM elementary magnet school will be located at Olson Elementary in Golden Valley, and will serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. A parent information night is scheduled for February 13, 2012, at 6:00pm.
